EXAMINATIONS

We offer students the opportunity to take examinations in Imperial Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre, Tap Dance, Acting and Musical Theatre. Examinations with the ISTD begin with a Primary Class Examination, before moving onto Grades 1-6, and beyond the graded syllabi students move onto vocational examinations, made up of Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2. Examinations with LAMDA work through Grades 1-8.

ISTD

Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing

The ISTD was established in 1904, and has since built up a worldwide reputation for excellence in dance training and education. Their mission is to promote knowledge, improve and maintain teaching standards throughout the world, and provide up-to-date techniques in the ever-changing world of dance.

The ISTD’s clearly defined examination structure allows learning to take place in the context of safe dance practice, and is designed to cater equally for those who wish to progress to making dance their profession, either as a performer or dance teacher, and for those pursuing dance purely as a leisure activity. Graded examinations aim to build up progressively, ensuring that steps and skills learned at lower levels prepare for more complex movements as the candidate progresses. Vocational examinations form a cohesive bridge between grade work and professional examinations to provide the basis for either a career as a dancer, or further training as a dance teacher. All examinations are accredited by Ofqual, and examinations taken at Grade 6 and Intermediate level, in any genre, will also receive UCAS points; which can be used towards a student’s entry requirements into university, even if they do not wish to study dance.

Examinations are not compulsory, and Bullfrog Productions reserves the right to decide when to enter a student into an examination. All children develop at different times, and we will ensure your child is placed at an appropriate level for their age and ability. Bullfrog Productions are proud to have achieved 100% Distinctions for all LAMDA examinations taken in the 2022/2023 academic year.

“Congratulations on the spectacular shows. We were bowled over by the colour, energy and sheer joy of both performances and all our guests commented on how professional the production was.”

Performance Opportunities

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Youth Production Company

Our Youth Production Company performs 2 musicals each year at The Capitol Theatre in Horsham. Rehearsals take place on Saturday afternoons in East Grinstead, with a total of 18 weeks of rehearsals for each show. Our rehearsals are both professional and fun, and we take pride in creating a unique ‘family feel’ with every cast.

Bullfrog is proud to hold a strong reputation for producing professional and high quality shows, even with a young cast. Our most recent productions have included Matilda, Footloose and Seussical! Please see our ‘Next Production’ page for more information on how to audition for our next cast!

Dance Shows

Students who are part of our dance classes have the opportunity to take part in bi-annual dance shows, in addition to their examination opportunities. Shows will take place in a professional theatre, and give the students an exciting opportunity to perform on stage in costumes, under bright lights, and experiment with props.

At Bullfrog Productions, we believe that examinations and performance opportunities have equal benefits, and that it is just as important to develop life long memories with friends on stage, as it is to develop technical skills and achieve high results in examinations.

“Being in Bullfrog has been the most amazing experience. Almost everyday she will say "I wish I had Bullfrog today" or similar. She has been practicing the dances around the house, so we knew to expect a good show, but we were all totally blown away by the professionalism and quality of the performance. It was absolutely fantastic.
