STREET DANCE

Ballet is a technical dance form, focusing on posture and alignment. We follow the ISTD syllabus for Imperial Classical Ballet, which was originally based upon the teachings of the French school at the Paris Opera, but has since evolved to promote the English classical ballet style, and to address the changing needs of ballet dancers today. Ballet focuses on encouraging a sound basic technique, and an understanding of musical interpretation, to provide the essentials of pure classical training.

Tap dance is an exciting, percussive, rhythmical dance form. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out a melody with tap shoes, which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. We follow the ISTD syllabus for Tap dance, which takes strong inspirations from American Tap, incorporating fast close work and complex rhythms. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on screen and stage in musicals.

Modern Theatre is a rhythmic dance style, often seen in musical theatre productions, and is known for its dynamic theatrical qualities. We follow the ISTD syllabus for Modern Theatre, which incorporates jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance styles into its examination syllabus. The style develops students skills, such as travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns, which all need strength and flexibility. Modern Theatre is a highly energetic dance style.

Street dance is an ever-evolving type of dance, incorporating a wide range of different styles, from jazz, to hip hop, to break dance. Street offers opportunities for creative expression, and gives a sense of freedom as students use improvisation to express themselves, and bounce ideas and energy between themselves and their peers. Street dance is largely influenced by current music trends and popular videos.

ADULT  CLASSES

CLASSES 2

We currently have 2 different jazz classes as part of our timetable: Technique and Routine. Technique classes are perfect for anyone looking to develop and improve specific skills, such as pirouettes, fouetté turns, kicks, jumps and leaps! Our routine classes are great for anyone looking to have fun, learn a new routine each week, and develop their ability to pick up choreography quickly! Our jazz classes are fast-paced, energetic and great for anyone wanting to dance, without the pressure of examinations.

Our drama classes include a wide range of fun drama games, as well as exercises such as improvisation and scenes. Drama not only improves acting skills and techniques, but also develops children’s confidence and social skills, teaching them how to articulate thoughts and ideas, and importantly make their voice heard. Other benefits of drama include reading fluency, a broader vocabulary, enhanced memory and recall, improved English language skills, and the ability to structure an argument.

Singing is a crucial aspect of musical theatre, and is equally important when singing a solo, as singing as an ensemble and rounding a harmony or arrangement. Singing is also a great way to build your knowledge and repertoire of different musical numbers, learn about the theory and anatomy of how to sing, as well as relieve stress and have fun! We offer private signing lessons on a weekly, or bi-weekly, basis, to allow individualised tuition, at and affordable rate.

We currently offer adult classes in jazz and tap dance. Our adult classes are suitable for all ages and abilities, from absolute beginners looking to keep fit, to ex professional dancers looking to get back into dancing again. However, most importantly, they are suitable to anyone looking to have fun and discover the joy of dancing, at any age!
